On 21 February 2013, Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken took part in the Limburg Meuse Valley Delta Programme administrative conference in Herten. The Delta Commissioner was present at the invitation of the administrators of the province of Limburg, the water authorities and Horst aan de Maas and Roermond municipalities.
The first results of the regional participation process for the Meuse Valley Delta Programme were presented during the conference. This regional participation process is taking place at the request of the Rivers sub-programme and is aimed at making – and keeping – Limburg safe from high water in the long term. In this regard, the long-term safety problem that is a consequence of climate change is linked to intended developments focused on arriving at promising strategies.
The Delta Commissioner gave an explanation of the Delta Programme as a whole. He complimented those present on their recent intensive collaboration and the results achieved which provide a good basis for drawing up a recommendation from the perspective of the Rivers sub-programme of which this work is a part.
