The Netherlands is a low-lying country with an abundance of water. The national Delta Programme is in place to protect the Netherlands from flooding, to ensure a sufficient supply of fresh water, and to contribute to rendering the Netherlands climate-proof and water-resilient. The programme involves concerted efforts by several governments and organisations, under the auspices of the Delta Programme Commissioner, the independent government commissioner for the Delta Programme.
