In a meeting with the House of Representatives today, Delta Programme Commissioner Wim Kuijken clarified the Delta Programme 2016. During the meeting, chaired by Committee chair Lutz Jacobi (PvdA), the eight MPs present acknowledged that the work is really just starting, now that the Delta Decisions and preferential strategies were adopted last year.

The MPs, representatives of the political parties VVD, PvdA, SP, CDA, D66, ChristenUnie, and Houwers party, brought up various topical issues relating to the Delta Programme, including:

  • the Rhine discharge near Lobith and the international models used;
  • coordination with Germany;
  • the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) climate alarm;
  • the importance of a clear explanation of the new standards and the embedding of the new standards in the Flood Protection Programme;
  • spatial adaptation;
  • innovation and the importance of sufficient knowledge and know-how;
  • water quality and an integrated approach;
  • the budget available from the Delta Fund.

The Delta Programme Commissioner met with the House at the invitation of the Standing Committee on Infrastructure and the Environment. The meeting served as a preparation for the legislative deliberations with Minister Schultz van Haegen (Infrastructure and the Environment) on Monday 30 November, which will deal with, among other things, the Delta Programme 2016.
