News and background

The national and regional governments are working together on the Integrated River Management (IRM) programme. They are proceeding on the basis of a single shared vision for a safe, navigable, dynamic and appealing Meuse and Rhine estuary; an estuary that can be managed sustainably and that is prepared for the future. This is being done with input from interest groups, knowledge institutes and other stakeholders. See www.bouwplaatsirm.nl for more information. You can also sign up for the newsletter there to keep informed about the progress of IRM and news about the Rhine area.

Story of the Rhine distributaries

Experts drew up the ‘Story of the Rhine Tributaries’ in the spring of 2020. It recounts the formation of the river, the disrupted balance, the agendas and the challenges. It contributes to the discussion in society about spatial planning for the Rhine distributaries. The document draws attention to specific issues and puts them on the agenda; it does not have any policy-related, legal, or financial status.
