Adaptive approach in the Delta Programme

The presentation of the Delta Programme 2015 (DP2015) last September, including the Delta Decisions, and the forthcoming discussion of the Delta Programme in the House of Representatives, prompted a great deal of questions on this topic.

The coverage focuses on two topics: the river discharge of 18,000 m3/sec and an alternative plan for the Rhine Estuary Drechtsteden region, which proposes closure of the Nieuwe Waterweg shipping route.

“Responses differ. Some comment that the DP2015 does not go far enough, others regard the proposed strategies as far too drastic. Our adaptive approach, however, is focused on doing what is needed at the time it becomes necessary. Level-headed and alert,” Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken remarked.
