What is the Delta Programme?

The Delta Programme is intended to protect the Netherlands from high water, make the Netherlands climate-resilient and water-robust and safeguard adequate supplies of fresh water. The central government, provincial and municipal authorities, and water authorities work together in the programme. Stakeholder organisations, the business community and knowledge institutes also provide input for the programme. On Prinsjesdag (the state opening of Parliament in the Netherlands), the annual report about the Delta Programme, with the timetable for the coming years, is submitted to the House of Representatives.

Civil society organisations and the business community also provide input. Every year, the annual report on the Delta Programme with the planning for the years ahead is presented to the House of Representatives on Prinsjesdag [the state opening of parliament in September].
