Sixth Dutch Delta Congress 2015

The sixth National Delta Conference took place on Thursday 5 November 2015, from 10.15 AM to 17.30 PM in 1931 Congrescentrum Brabanthallen in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Everyone involved and interested in the Delta Programme was welcome to attend: civil society organisations, the business community, knowledge institutes and governments. The conference was organised in a co-production with the national government, the provinces, water boards and local authorities.

The organisers have used the feedback and experiences from those that attended last year’s Delta Conference to further improve the conference but the programme also comprised some familiar features. At 10.15 a.m., Wim van de Donk, Royal Commissioner for the province of Noord-Brabant, opened the conference. Following a short plenary session of about an hour in the plenary hall, one could participate in in-depth sessions during the morning and the afternoon.

The morning and afternoon sessions focused on the following themes: the progress made regarding water safety and new standards, the freshwater supply and the supply levels, the approach to spatial adaptation and the experience gained in the field of modern water governance, both nationally and internationally. Each session offered room for some 150 participants and for mutual interaction. The implementation of the Delta Programme and the elaboration of the Delta Decisions occupied centre stage in the sessions.

Once again, the Delta Parade constituted the central meeting place. Here, too, attention was focused on implementation. Throughout the day, the Delta Parade offered plenty of time and opportunity for an informal exchange of knowledge and experiences. For example at the meeting points for the seven regions (Coast, Rivers Rhine and Meuse, Rhine Estuary-Drechtsteden, Wadden Area, IJsselmeer Area and the South-western Delta), and at the booths of programmes and projects linked to the Delta Programme, such as the Flood Protection Programme and Ons Water. During the lunch break, the meeting points offered opportunities to meet & greet various officials.

From 15.30 PM on, you were able to exchange views with other members of the Delta Community over drinks.
