Delta Viewer in De Hoge Veluwe National Park

Thanks to the Delta Viewer, visitors to De Hoge Veluwe National Park can learn all about water in the Netherlands from Wednesday 10 April 2013. The Delta Viewer has been installed in the Museonder, part of the park’s Visitors Centre.

The Delta Viewer explains to young and old park visitors how we are ensuring that the Netherlands remains protected from high water, today and in the future, and how we can continue to ensure an adequate fresh-water supply.

Wim Kuijken is pleased that the Delta Viewer has also been installed at De Hoge Veluwe National Park: “The Delta Viewer shows the past and present and possible future of our delta and our country. The delta has brought us prosperity but danger too. We have been flooded by the sea and rivers. We are now preparing for a future that may be drier as well as wetter. This is also important for so-called ‘high-lying ground’ like De Hoge Veluwe which can be affected by river water.

The Delta Viewer allows users to gain better insight into the questions we must answer. We hope that a lot of people will take advantage of this opportunity. Water is the fundamental precondition for life everywhere, including the Netherlands.”

The Delta Viewer allows visitors to become better informed about the role of water in the park. The soil under De Hoge Veluwe is actually very important in filtering rainfall and thus also important to our supply of drinking water. In addition, the special structure of the park’s soil contributes to creating high-quality groundwater and thus facilitates a high degree of biodiversity. Examples of this biodiversity can be seen at Deelense Veld and in the surroundings of the Jachthuis Sint Hubertus.
