Delta Viewer now available online

The Delta Viewer can be accessed online as of 7 November 2013. This interactive presentation answers general questions concerning the specific water problems and issues the Netherlands is facing, how they were dealt with in the past, how they are being dealt with today and how they will be dealt with in the future. The Delta Viewer is aimed at raising people’s awareness of this.

Since its launch in November 2012, the Delta Viewer’s rise has been rapid: it was not only named Best Serious Game of the government in 2012, but can now also be found in over 30 museums, visitors’ centres and education institutions.

Across the board, experiences with the Delta Viewer can be said to be positive. For that reason, the Delta Viewer has been described as "a valuable addition to the collection” (Siemco Louwerse, director of the Watersnoodmuseum). Education institutions like the NHTV in Breda, which uses the Delta Viewer as an addition to its teaching materials, also have had good experiences. According to Ben Offringa, a teacher at the NHTV: "Using the Delta Viewer creates an atmosphere and dynamic in the lesson that is different from watching a PowerPoint presentation (and they’ve seen plenty of those). I believe that it’s completely refreshing for the students to examine things in a different context."

Over the past year, there has been much demand for an online version: a network version or a version accessible via the internet makes it possible to work differently, for example, giving the students assignments to work on themselves. Or finally finishing the Waterverdeler (the serious game in which you are at the controls and can experience firsthand what it’s like to keep the Netherlands from flooding while at the same time maintaining an adequate supply of freshwater. Experience has shown that an online application delivers a higher yield: by actively and consciously searching, the material is retained better. The Delta Viewer is a 3D application that offers a wealth of information in a unique and visually attractive way.
