Delta Commissioner present at delivery of 3Di instrument

On 20 March, Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken was present in Utrecht for the delivery of the 3Di instrument. 3Di is a super-fast modelling instrument that makes it possible to visualise water-management issues and discuss them interactively with stakeholders.

In addition, it enables water authorities to optimise measures, to link together water and spatial planning policy and to provide real-time support for disaster management, for example,  in the event of floods. According to the Delta Commissioner, this means the instrument has great potential in terms of the further elaboration and implementation of the Delta Decisions and preferred strategies after 2015. The visualisation options strengthen the timely involvement of the general public and the business community in this and provides room for their input. In this way, the 3Di instrument democratises water management, a development that also has considerable export potential.

The 3Di instrument was developed by a consortium in which authorities (Delfland Water Authority, Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Authority, Waternet), research institutes (Deltares, Delft University of Technology) and the business community (Nelen-Schuurmans) collaborated with the Knowledge for Climate programme, in full alignment with the principles of the Water Top Sector.
