Delta Commissioner visits Haaglanden Safety Region

On 23 April, Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken visited the general management of the Haaglanden Safety Region.

This Safety Region is responsible for disaster management in the Haaglanden region. In his presentation, the Delta Commissioner underscored the importance of proper disaster management in the event of flooding, in terms of cooperating with other authorities as well as informing the public about escape routes and places of refuge.

Proposals for the new water safety policy will be presented in the Delta Programme 2015 on Prinsjesdag (the state opening of parliament). In this regard, priority is given to reliable flood barriers but water-robust spatial planning and disaster management are essential to limit loss of life in the event of flooding. The Safety Regions play a crucial role in disaster management, together with the Ministry of Security and Justice, road and water management authorities and the emergency services.
