Presentation of Rhine Estuary-Drechtsteden advisory report

On Monday 16 June, the Chair of the Rhine Estuary-Drechtsteden Steering Group, Mayor Aboutaleb of Rotterdam, presented the recommendations of the Rhine Estuary-Drechtsteden sub-programme to Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken. The advisory report is one of six regional reports on preferred strategies for the areas covered by the national Delta Programme.

Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken: ‘Hard work has been done to thoroughly study the entire area to identify the problems regarding water safety and to set the course for the decades ahead. It has become clear that the problems up until 2050 lie mainly in the eastern part of the region (Ablasserwaard/Krimpenerwaard and Dordrecht). It is now also clear how the freshwater supply can best be designed to respond to drought, low water and salinisation. I would like to sincerely thank the steering group for these recommendations. I will get to work with them and include them in my total proposal to the cabinet for the Delta Programme 2015 that will be presented on Prinsjesdag (the state opening of parliament).’
