Delta Commissioner visits Groot Salland Water Authority’s “De Blauwe Link” network event and launches Water4days

This event was organised by Groot Salland Water Authority to familiarise administrators (mainly those from the region) with water safety, to introduce them to the water authority and to further expand and intensify cooperation.

Chair of the Water Authority, Herman Dijk, was very pleased to see the large turnout of water stakeholders from the province, municipality, water authorities, Rijkswaterstaat, the business community and NGOs. ‘In this way we are strengthening the network of regional water partners in order to continue working on water in IJssel-Vecht delta in the future.’

At the event, the administrators first went on a tour by horse-drawn wagon. The tour focused on Zwolle’s sewage treatment and the dike extension at Westenholte. Afterwards, the Delta Commissioner provided an overview of the upcoming Delta Decisions and the Delta Programme that has been submitted to the cabinet and about which we will hear more on Prinsjesdag (the state opening of parliament).

Mayor Henk Jan Meijer of Zwolle and provincial executive councillor for Overijssel Bert Boerman spoke positively about cooperation in the IJssel-Vecht delta.

The morning came to a close with a brief explanation of the Proeftuin Water (Water Testing Ground) by municipal executive councillor Gerrit Jan Veldhoen van Kampen. Together with a large group of children, the Delta Commissioner then signalled the start of the Water4days with festive balloons released on the meadows adjacent to De Vreugdehoeve. During the Water4days, from Thursday 19 June to Sunday 22 June, there will be an abundance of things to do, see and discover related to water in the IJssel-Vecht delta.
