Presentation of South-western Delta Regional Advisory Report

On Thursday 19 June, provincial executive councillor Han Weber, Chair of the South-western Delta Steering Group, presented the South-western Delta Regional Advisory Report to Bart Parmet, Director of the Delta Commissioner’s staff. This is one of six regional advisory reports regarding the preferred strategy for regions within the national Delta Programme.

The presentation took place at the South-western Delta Conference at which all the stakeholders from the national government, municipalities, province, water authorities and civil society organisations discussed the opportunities and challenges in the region. The cooperation between these parties has been – and is – very successful, as demonstrated by the regional recommendations presented and the innovative strength in the region.

The South-western Delta is a region that not only faces the problems covered in the Delta Programme (water safety and fresh water) but also ecological and economic ones.

In the report, the region links up the various problems that it is facing and sets the course for the future. For the South-western Delta, the preferred strategies for water and fresh water in particular constitute important input for the Delta Commissioner’s proposal for the national Delta Programme 2015 which the cabinet will present on Prinsjesdag (the state opening of parliament).
