Delta Commissioner meets with Neerijnen municipal council and the Varik-Heesselt flood channel sounding board group

Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijen paid an informal working visit to the Varik-Heesselt area at the invitation of Josan Meijers, provincial executive councillor of the province of Gelderland.

Ms Meijers and Roelof Bleker, chair of the Rivierenland Water Authority began the working visit by receiving the Delta Commissioner at the Oude Toren in Varik, where Corry Derksen (a member of the sounding board group) presented him with a book of stories about the area. From the Oude Toren, there is a marvellous view of the possible plan area for the flood channel.

The administrators involved gave an extensive explanation of the current state of affairs, and the sounding board group and municipal council were able to put any questions they had. It was made clear to everyone that the work on the provincial spatial vision for the area and working towards a possible decision on the start of study into a Multi-year Programme for Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Transport (MIRT) offers opportunities for all stakeholders to provide their input.
