Youth Water Board and Delta Commissioner exchange views

Water awareness among young people must be raised, a Delta Conference could be organised for young people, a component aimed at young people could be incorporated into the annual Delta Programme and water should feature more strongly in school curricula. These are the plans that Nina ter Horst, Chair of the Youth Water Board, proposed to the Delta Commissioner.

The annual meeting between the Delta Commissioner and the Youth Water Board took place along the coast, near the Sand Motor. During the meeting, the Delta Commissioner outlined the progress made within the Delta Programme. The action items tackled by the Youth Water Board and further details of the proposals were also discussed. The Delta Commissioner would like to approach the Royal Dutch Geographical Society, together with the Youth Water Board, in order to promote Water as an elective subject in secondary education. Furthermore, the Delta Commissioner aims to tie in, wherever possible, with existing actions such as the Water Education project of the Association of Dutch Water Authorities and the “Our Water” campaign initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. The other ideas and proposals will be elaborated in collaboration with the Delta Commissioner’s staff.

The coastal venue was chosen for good reason, as the meeting was rounded off by an interesting presentation on the Sand Motor.
