Signing of the IJsselmeer Area Pact for a safe, resilient and vigorous IJsselmeer area

Working together to improve safety and the freshwater supply in the IJsselmeer area, that is the focus of the IJsselmeer Area Pact that was signed on Friday, 6 March.

A significant moment: by signing the Pact, the representatives of the water boards, local authorities, provinces and civil society organisations, together with representatives of the national government, Rijkswaterstaat and water company Vitens, confirm their intention of joining forces in order to keep safety and the freshwater supply up to par in the years ahead. The Pact embodies the implementation of the Delta Decision regarding the IJsselmeer area, set down in the new Delta Plan for the 21st century.

The Pact was signed in the presence of Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken. “I am very pleased with the Pact, because it is a huge help in the collaboration between all the parties concerned. Working together on a common goal and linking the various tracks also in terms of content. That is our key focus in the years ahead. This Pact allows us to continue our successful approach of the past few years,’ the Delta Commissioner commented.

The signing took place in a fitting setting, viz. the Wortman pumping station, one of the three pumping stations that was used to reclaim the Eastern Flevoland polder.
