Working visit to Elevated Sandy Soils
Yesterday, Delta Programme Commissioner Wim Kuijken paid a working visit to the Elevated Sandy Soils in the Province of Gelderland. The day started off in the municipality of Berkelland at the premises of farmer Jan Stokkers. Following an introduction to the water availability tasking in the area, the Delta Programme Commissioner was made acquainted with the farming interests in a fertile soil and the relation to water availability. To this end, a soil profile pit was dug on site, in order to enable all those present to examine the soil together.
In the afternoon, the Delta Programme Commissioner visited Lochem, where he was welcomed by Mayor Sebastiaan van ’t Erve, who reported on the collaboration underway in the area processes in his municipality. In addition, several Lochem residents indicated how they – as citizens – are involved in these processes. At the weir in the river Berkel, municipal staff and the district water board explained how the fish passage has been realised. The role of citizen participation in this process was also discussed. Various spatial taskings have been amalgamated into a coherent whole in the realisation of this fish passage. This project thus illustrates how climate tasking is incorporated into a larger process at the elevated sandy soils.
