The Netherlands going full steam ahead with adaptation to climate change

Today, Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management) enlightened the Dutch House of Representatives about the steps that have been taken in the Netherlands over recent years, in collaboration with all the parties involved, in the process of adapting our country to climate change. To quote the Minister: ‘We are going full steam ahead.’

In her memorandum to the House, she stated that the long-term aims of the Delta Plan on Spatial Adaptation also include flood impact reduction, ensuring a sufficient supply of fresh water, and the prevention of frequent large-scale waterlogging and heat-related damage. The Delta Plan sets out the steps that will be taken to ensure that the Netherlands will be water-resilient and climate-proof by 2050.
